Northwest Austin Community Information


The River Place Country Club in Northwest Austin is a family oriented, private Country Club nestled in slight rolling hills and secluded canyons. Golf enthusiasts can chip away at golf balls on a championship course while gazing at the surrounding, breathtaking hill country views. The 18-hole course was designed by Tom Kite, the winner of the 1992 U.S. Open Championship and the 2000 Senior PGA Tradition Championship. Members enjoy unlimited greens fees. The Country Club also offers other recreational activities such as tennis and swimming. Other country clubs and golf courses in the area include Balcones Golf and Country Club and Great Hills Golf Course.


Additional leisure amenities include several shopping centers such as Lakeline Mall, the Arboretum outdoor mall, and the Gateway Shopping Mall. Austin residents are blessed with a temperate climate and over 300 days of sunshine a year. Residents also have great opportunities for outdoor recreation. Northwest Austin and even downtown Austin are home to nature trails, parks and wilderness preserves.

Culture and Attractions

Residents have a plethora of cultural opportunities as well. Austin features professional ballet, symphony, opera, and theater companies. As one of the best music scenes in the country, live music plays at more than 100 venues on any given night. A genre all its own, Austin music is a combination of blues, rock and roll, and even some jazz. The Bob Bullock State History Museum features intriguing artifacts, interactive exhibits, multi-media shows and an IMAX theatre.


Originally a buffalo hunting ground used by the Tonkawa Indians, Austin was permanently settled in 1838 as a trading post. The city is home to the Texas State Capitol, the largest domed statehouse in the country. The pink granite structure is even 14 feet taller than the Nation's Capitol.
